Plans are in place to modernise the computing infrastructure at Barts Health NHS Trust and move informatics to a cloud-based service.
A three-year framework agreement has been signed to move one data centre over to their cloud solution, which will free up physical space across the trust, as well as increasing scalability, resilience and security.
Using a cloud service to host a full data centre suite is relatively new for the NHS and Barts Health is one of the first trusts to make this strategic move. The contract, with Capgemini, was signed in December and planning work has begun, with a view that all appropriate systems will be migrated over the next 12-18 months.
Sarah Jensen, Chief Information Officer, said: “As Barts Health continues its ambitious journey to modernise the technology solutions it provides to staff and patients, we look forward to this next important strategic step with our chosen partner, Capgemini. With their existing experience in providing cloud hosting services and digital transformation solutions to the NHS, we are excited about the journey we have started together and are confident our partnership will continue to add value in our ever-challenging environment which ultimately leads to better care for patients.”
