In 2003 we combined hands-on and managerial experience from the NHS with technical expertise gained in industry and formed Steribar Systems Ltd. Our goal was to create purpose built 2D barcode readers for tracking surgical instruments.
The world, however, was not quite ready for instrument level traceability and we subsequently applied the technology we had developed to read 2D barcoded test tubes in bio-banks. Our high performance, reliable and affordable test tube readers have subsequently become world leaders.
By 2015, interest in tracking individual surgical instruments was again coming to the fore particularly in Belgium, Europe, USA and Australia and as a result we formed 2DSurgical Ltd. and launched our SurgiScan range.
The reception which greeted the SurgiScan at the WFHSS in Lille in 2015 confirmed that instrument level tracking was here to stay.
We have subsequently exhibited annually at locations across the world. SurgiScans are now well known in CSSD departments around the globe and identified as the scanner of choice by CSSD managers and staff.
We understand that implementing instrument level tracking can be challenging and often perceived negatively by staff as another chore or frustration to add to their already busy workload. Our readers are designed to make everything as easy as possible allowing staff to see the real benefits of the system.
We believe that scanning a surgical instrument or implant should be as easy as scanning an item at a supermarket checkout. This should be hands free with no need to focus.
The high- performance SurgiScan Ultra can read codes that are hardly visible to the human eye. They are also able to read poor contrast codes on instruments that have become discoloured after passing through the sterilising cycle numerous times.
The robust waterproof aluminium casing and scratch resistant sapphire crystal reading window ensures easy cleaning and a long life.
Installation of the SurgiScan Ultra is quick and easy. Our in-house software engineers ensure compatibility with all tracking systems. The smart software allows the code to be manipulated so that a prefix, suffix or additional number can be added prior to the code being exported to the database.
Where installation of software is impractical, we now have our SurgiScan Ultra Lite which requires no installation and is “plug and play”.
We continue to develop our products by listening to end-users. They have helped us achieve the world-leading products we have today.
