New NetZero GOVERNMENT event to launch

NetZero GOVERNMENT is the online event that will provide guidance and advice to help the public sector reach the government’s target of ‘net zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

In June 2019, the government passed legislation in which it committed to achieving ‘Net Zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which would mean reducing emissions substantially from current levels.

Aiming for Net Zero represents an increase in the level of ambition from government’s previous emissions reduction target and achieving it is a colossal challenge and significantly more challenging than government’s previous target to reduce emissions by 80 per cent by 2050. Reaching Net Zero means all parts of the economy, including those that are harder to decarbonise, need to reduce emissions substantially.

In some sectors, there are well-understood pathways to Net Zero but there is uncertainty in other sectors over how to reduce emissions. This is because it is not yet known how quickly some technologies will develop or how much individuals will be willing to change their behaviours. Certain areas have been identified as key to having a significant impact, across the public sector estate, such as building and energy, transport and waste and recycling.

NetZero GOVERNMENT aims to bring together key experts that are helping drive forward the public sector strategy. Supported by Government Business magazine and Health Business magazine, the event is catered for those responsible for facilities and estates, waste and recycling, corporate social responsibility, transport and travel plans, energy and environment.

NetZero GOVERNMENT will be delivered using the online platform, webevents365. Cutting out the need for travel to a venue puts a marker down as to how we plan on helping the UK public sector deliver on its Net Zero strategy.

Taking place on 17 June, the platform has a live chat function, allowing you to network with your peers. You can post questions for the experts, in the Q&A element, and help shape the strategy, moving forward, by casting your vote in the live polls. There will also be downloads available, at the click of a mouse.

The event already has experts lined up to discuss the very latest in legislation, innovation and solutions, including UK100, NHS Property Services, Renewable Energy Association, Carbon & Energy Fund and Keep Britain Tidy.
