To celebrate Social Prescribing Day today (19th March 2025), NHS Property Services highlights Eddington Wellbeing Hub, which is one of the 110 NHS wellbeing hubs across the country.
NHS Property Services provide strategic support across the entire estate through partnering with Integrated Care Boards, Trusts and GP practices across England to provide excellent care across 3,000 buildings.
Eddington Wellbeing Hub, managed by Witton Lodge Community Association in the West Midlands, saw a 30 per cent increase in demand for its services in 2023-24 and saw more than 4,000 visitors. This number is stark difference from the decline in footfall at the high street.
Social prescribing involves connecting people with mental or physical challenges to community services including support groups, employment groups, and adult learning.
Erdington Wellbeing Hub offers a range of services such as occupational therapy, housing support, arts and craft sessions, and benefits and welfare advice.
NHS Property Services create community hubs from vacant indoor and outdoor spaces in health centres, GP practices and hospitals across England.
Dr Kay Crossman, medical director at Midlands Medical Partnership (MMP), said: “The Eddington Wellbeing Hub has been incredibly valuable in supporting MMP by ensuring patients receive the right care from the most appropriate healthcare professional.
“This has helped reduce pressure on our GPs by providing an alternative source of support, streamlining patient pathways, and ensuring their needs are met efficiently. As a result, it has free dup appointments for those who need them most. The hub has been a vital resource for both MMO, making a real difference in people’s wellbeing”
