Every GP practice in Wales is now using EMIS Web, meaning every practice is now using the same clinical system.

Delivered by Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) in partnership with GP practices and suppliers across Wales, the system is now in place across 193 GP practices.

The programme began in June 2024 and more than 1.75 million patient records have now been safely migrated.

More than 5,000 staff have been supported through the transition with training, preparation and go-live activities. DHCW's Primary Care Services team provided more than 17,400 hours of direct support.

Sam Hall, Director of Primary, Community Care and Mental Health Digital Services, Digital Health and Care Wales, said: "Today marks the culmination of years of planning, partnership and hard work across primary care in Wales. Bringing every GP practice onto a single clinical system is a significant national achievement and provides a platform for the next generation of digital services and improvements for practices and patients alike.

"This programme has only been possible because of the commitment shown by GP practice teams, our delivery partners and colleagues across NHS Wales. Together, they have delivered a nationally significant transformation that will support primary care in Wales for years to come."

Morgan Waters, Practice Manager at Pontllanfraith Medical Practice, said: "The migration has been extremely well planned and managed. From the early preparation through to go-live support, we always knew what was happening and what was expected of us. The support provided to the whole practice team has been excellent and has helped make the transition a real success.”
