North Bristol NHS Trust, Elgar House Solar PV Installation Case Study

The collaboration between North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and EES Group marks a significant stride towards NBT's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and minimising its environmental impact. EES Group has been instrumental in guiding NBT through the intricate phases of feasibility assessment, design concepts, and seamless execution of multiple solar installations across the trust's premises. Overall, the programme of works will deliver in excess of 440kW of solar. The comprehensive program is poised to revolutionise North Bristol's energy landscape.

Crucially, EES Group has successfully adhered to predetermined timelines and budget constraints, ensuring a timely and cost-effective delivery of the program. Spanning various roof configurations and system scales, EES Group's approach remains steadfastly centered on maximising available roof space and optimising system efficiency. The incorporation of Solar Edge technology stands as a testament to this commitment, facilitating a swift and efficient installation while providing the trust with robust reporting and monitoring capabilities.

Notably, the Elgar House installation emerges as a pinnacle of complexity within North Bristol Trust’s solar infrastructure, characterised by a pitched roof and formidable accessibility challenges. Despite these hurdles, EES Group has executed the installation with meticulous attention to detail, all while ensuring minimal disruption to patient care and well-being.

The tangible benefits of these initiatives are reflected in the substantial savings the Trust will benefit from. The annual savings total £43,636, and over the course of 20 years, these savings are anticipated to reach an impressive £1,087,103. Additionally, the environmental impact is significant, as evidenced by the reduction of 33,890kg of CO2 emissions. The rapid payback period of just 3.3 years highlights the effectiveness and feasibility of the trust’s investment in renewable energy infrastructure. This underscores a notable shift towards sustainability and resilience within healthcare operations.
