Since its inception in 2003, medical gases specialist MGPS Services Ltd has provided high quality medical gas related training and technical consultancy to healthcare providers in both private and nationalised sectors around the world.
MGPS Services offers comprehensive support for the interpretation and implementation of HTM 02-01 in the healthcare environment. Training courses for all functional responsibilities defined by the HTM e.g. Estates, Nursing, Portering and are complemented by a range of consultancy services including medical gas system design, compliance assessment, Medical Gas Authorising Engineering Services and provision of Medical Gas Authorised Person services.

Our Medical Gas Courses for Competent and Authorised Persons are accredited to Pearson (BTEC Level 4) and are delivered at our dedicated training centre in Yate Bristol, or on site in your chosen location, or by a more tailored approach, where you choose location (including overseas) and course content.
These courses are complemented by our Medical Gas Safety courses for all personnel who will be working with medical gases. We have developed courses for Nurses, Porters and
staff having management responsibility for but limited knowledge of medical gas systems. Scheduled courses include:

MGPS Services Ltd currently have three trainers, Steve Goddard, Andy Capper and Simon Colley.
Steve Goddard
Steve Goddard joined Eastwood Park in 1981 as a demonstrator, working across all delivered specialities. Subsequent employment involved moves to an American life support equipment manufacture, Puritan Bennett and UK medical gas system designers Medaes Ltd.
Steve finally returned to Eastwood Park as a Lecturer, with responsibility for Biomedical Equipment and Computing Course, eventually taking responsibility for the Medical Gas Authorised Person training courses.
In 2003 Steve established MGPS Training Ltd (now known as MGPS Services Ltd) providing Medical Gas Training and Consultancy to the Healthcare Sector and private customers.
Since forming the company, Steve regularly carries out AP (MGPS) duties for routine operations and has been involved with major medical gas project work for the NHS site in the UK and abroad.
In 2014 Steve became a Medical Gas Authorising Engineering providing AE Services to over 50 NHS Trusts and is a Fellow member of IHEEM.
Andy Capper
Andy Capper undertook his engineering training within the British Ministry of Defence, completing a four-year apprenticeship. On completion he worked within the MOD at an international centre of excellence for climatic testing. The work involved design of project management of vehicle and equipment. He was also part of the engineering management team for facilities.
He then transferred to the private sector, undertaking facility management at Barnet Hospital, London. As part of his role as Maintenance Manager, Andy was an appointed Authorised Person for Medical Gases and High Voltage Systems.
Andy then moved to work at Medaes Ltd as a Contract Engineer, responsible for the design and installation of Medical Gas pipelines, source plant and monitoring systems for the NHS and private clients.
Andy joined MGPS Services in 2009 providing Training, AP Duties, technical support, system design and analysis as well as operational management tools.
Andy is one of the course lectures based at our Training Centre in Bristol delivering courses at our dedicated centre and at customer’s sites, in the UK and Overseas.
Simon Colley
Simon started his career in the British Army, Royals Signals as a “Powerman”, providing power for major communications networks. He then moved onto Tarmac / ARC, waste to energy projects, converting landfill gas to electricity, supplying to the National grid.
He then joined Midland Medical, as a Medical Gas Maintenance Engineer, including specialist projects such as, Mobile Transportable Surgical Facility for the British military and the Norwegian Deployable Hospital.
He has also work as an Estates Officer at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.
In 2018 Simon joined MGPS Services Ltd as a training and Medical Gas Authorised Person providing AP Services for medical gases.
