Trusts across the country are bringing the festive spirit to patients and staff in the lead up to Christmas.

Volunteers at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) were invited to a celebratory festive brunch hosted by members of the Board of Directors at the Holiday Inn at Warmsworth.

Karen Jessop, chief nurse at DBTH, said: “Our volunteers are the heart of our Trust, and Thursday’s festive brunch was just a small token of our immense gratitude for their unwavering dedication and support.

“Their kindness and selflessness make a real difference in the lives of our patients and colleagues every day.”

Gillingham Football club visited the children's ward at NHS Medway Foundation Trust with manager Mark Bonner, goalkeeping coach Deren Ibrahim and a number of first-team players handing out gifts to patients. Team mascots Tommy and Tammy were also there.

Amanda Russell, head of nursing for children’s and young people services, said: “A huge thank you to the Gillingham Football Club players, and the coaches and club’s mascots, for visiting our children’s wards and helping to spread some festive cheer.

“The visit certainly helped to put some smiles on the faces of our young patients, as well as their families and our staff, which was just lovely to see.”

Patients, families and NHS staff from Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, were treated to a festive boat ride thanks to the Port of London Authority and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers.

10 patients and their families took a boat ride down the Thames on a a Thames Clipper, while Father Christmas arrived on a Port of London Authority harbour launch boat, carrying presents donated by DP World and Tideway.

Sue Pruden, play service manager of the therapeutic play service, said: "In hospital, families don’t often have the opportunity to spend time together. Experiences like this, that the whole family can enjoy and create memories together, are especially invaluable at Christmas time.

"We are so grateful to the Port of London Authority, Thames Clippers and Evelina London Children’s Charity for making this magical day happen. We care for children from across the south east and UK and, for some of them, this is their first time seeing the sights of the city."
