NHS celebrates 76th birthday with tea party

To celebrate the NHS' 76th birthday today (5 July), Trusts across the country are taking part in the NHS Big Tea party.

It will raise charitable funds for a variety of different organisations.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity, for example, is encouraging residents to take part in the tea party and contribute a few pounds to the hospital charity.

The funds raised will support various projects that significantly impact patients, their families, and the colleagues across Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital.

The NHS Big Tea is owned by NHS Charities Together, to support our NHS charity members in their fundraising.

At Alder Hey Children's Hospital, employees from Health Service Discounts delivered cakes to staff.

NHS England said in a post on X: "On the 76th anniversary of the NHS, we want to thank our incredible staff, who continue to work hard to meet the changing needs of patients.

"From cooks to clinicians, midwives to mental health nurses and pharmacists to physiotherapists — thank you for everything you do."
